IRSBACCOM UNIVERSITY MORE CONTENT 

A lot of sweeping changes are taking place globally; and because societies all over the world are being driven by knowledge-based economy, Nigeria or Republic of Benin’s Socio-economic, political and cultural environments have to respond to the new global changes. The Department of Security Management and Strategic Operation of the Irsbaccom University must play a leading role in an attempt to understand these changes. Consequently, its graduate programme is designed to develop future Sociologist, Security Management and Strategic Operation, Criminology and Security Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, etc.

The programme is intended to provide the students with the interdisciplinary skills to analyze the interactions between all these elements and to communicate their ideas effectively in both written and oral context.

Philosophy of the Programme

The postgraduate programme in security management and strategic operation prepares high level manpower for professional practice, Corporate Security, Peace and Conflict, Intelligence, Physical Security, Warfare, Criminal Profiling and Investigation, Executive/VIP Protection, Advanced Sociological Theories, Advanced Research Methods, Forensic Science,Demilitarization and Arms Control. Counter Terrorism and Insurgency Control Strategies. Since graduates of this programme are expected to teach security management and strategic operation as well as sociology or hold key positions in public and private establishments in the country, the curriculum exposes the students to the theory and practice of sociology which equip them for professional practice.

Aims/Objectives

The aims of the Graduate programme is to produce students with adequate knowledge, attitudes, values and skills in generic sociology, as well as provide adequate research knowledge to respond pro-actively toward ensuring adequate control of the new social forces and enhance the capacity of its staff to train the manpower required for the envisaged challenges. Specifically.
i. To ensure professionally trained and qualified sociology experts who would not be sidelined in issues, matters, policies, activities involving sociology effective delivery, in preference to security management and strategic operation.
ii. To inculcate in the student a scientific spirit of inquiry and objectivity.
iii. To prepare students who will be able to exhibit innovative problem-solving and critical thinking skills in issues such as security management, strategic operation, peace and conflict, warfare, criminal profiling and investigation, executive/VIP protection, intelligence, forensic science etc.
iv. To prepare students for leadership position in social, economic and political institutions both inside and outside our country.
v. To stimulate the spirit of dedication to service of our society and humanity in general.
vi. To prepare students for the world of competitiveness in activities with educational institutions, with government establishments, with social welfare agencies, non-governmental agencies and international organization, with federal government security and intelligence departments in business and industry, with peace keeping operations and other peace building activities, and with state and local law enforcement agencies.
