PROFILE OF MAJOR-GENERAL GBOLAHAN OYEFESOBI,FIIPS
Born on 27th April, 1966 at Ikeja in Lagos State, but originally from Ijebu-East Local Government Area of Ogun State, he was educated at St Patrick’s Nursery/Primary School and Igbobi College, both in Yaba, Lagos, between 1972 and 1984. Thereafter, he was admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna as a member of the 36 Regular Course, after which he was commissioned in 1989 as an infantry officer.
He obtained the BA (Hons) degree in History in 1988, MSc in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano in 2005; and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil.) in Strategy and Development Studies from Bangladesh University of Professionals in 2019.
He served at various times in different positions and locations, including: Directing Staff, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (2005-2007); Commanding Officer, 6 Battalion (2007-2008); Assistant Director, (Doctrine) Defence Headquarters (2008-2009); Chief Instructor, Special Warfare Wing, NASI (2009-2011); Director, Department of Land Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, (AFCSC), Jaji (2013-2015); Defence Adviser, London (2015-2018); Commander, Nigerian Army Training Centre (2018-2019); Director of Administration, Defence Intelligence Agency (2019); and Commander, Nigerian Army Special Forces Corps (2020).
Major-General Oyefesobi is currently Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence/Acting Chief of Defence Intelligence, Defence Intelligence Agency.
A Fellow of both the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria; Member, Royal United Services Institute, UK; as well as Associate Member of the Nigeria Society of International Affairs and Associate Fellow, Historical Society of Nigeria, he has wide operational experience both within and outside the country. This includes, Operation Liberty (ECOMOG) in Liberia (1994-1997); Operation Flushout II in Kano (1999), and Operation MESA in Akwa Ibom State (2007-2008).
He has received various commendation awards and medals in the course of service, including Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award as CO-6 Battalion (2008); Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Infantry Commendation as Chief Instructor, Counter-terrorism and Counter-insurgency Centre (2009); Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Commendation as Director, Department of Land Warfare (2014); and President and Commander-in- Chief, Letter of Commendation as Defence Adviser in London (2017). His awards and medals also include: Passed Staff College (PSC+), National Defence College (NDC BD), Corps Medal of Honour (CMH), General Service Star (GSS), Training Support Medal (TSM), ECOMOG Medal (1991, 1997), and Command Medal (CM).
The General is happily married with children and has an engaging passion with playing volleyball, as well as reading gospel and military publications.
