Born on October 11, 1968, Anthony Ofoyetan hails from Ekoko/Erhogho in the Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State. He was educated at St Andrew’s Anglican Primary School, Ode-Irele in Ondo State (1974-80); Idogbo Secondary School, Benin City, Edo State from 1980 where he wrote the West African School Certificate Examination in 1985 and then moved over to Lagos in 1987 for Higher School Certificate studies at CMS Grammar School, finishing in 1989. In 1991, he was admitted to the University of Ibadan to read Law and obtained the LLB in 1996 and the Barrister at Laws (BL) from the Nigerian Law School (1997-98), after which he was called to the Bar at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Still in quest for further knowledge of Law, he attended Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State and obtained the Master’s at Law (LLM); degree (1999-2000).
His work experience started as Office Manager at Midway Security Ltd, Lagos in 1990 and, after his qualification as a lawyer, he had three-month Law office attachment with Gani Fawehinmi Chambers and Library at Anthony Village in Lagos from 1999 to May 2000. He was the Legal Adviser to Midway Scientific Guards Ltd in Ogba, Lagos and from 2001 to 2005 worked as Senior Counsel at Falana & Falana Chambers at G.R.A; Ikeja. In 2005, he established Tony Ofoyetan & Co at Ikorodu Road, Onipanu, Lagos as the Principal Partner. He is also Chief Consultant to Wealthtower Corporate Concept from 2006 till date; and has been the Director-General of International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS), a security training organisation headquartered at Adebowale House, Onipanu, Lagos since 2006.
Mr Tony Ofoyetan is also Chairman of Mediagate Communications Limited, a subsidiary company of IIPS, Managing Director/ CEO of Blissgate Intercontinental Oil & Gas; Founder, IIPS Multipurpose Co-operative Society; Chairman, Board of Trustees, World Initiative Against Violence (a non-governmental organisation); and Editor-in-Chief, Nigeria Security Journal.
A very dynamic person, Tony has been involved in a number of extra-curricular activities and student unionism. These include Labour Prefect in his secondary school and Field prefect during his Higher School Certificate studies. He was at various times Vice-President, Speaker and Majority Leader between 1992 and 1996 while studying Law at the University of Ibadan. Professionally, he was Legal Adviser to the Nigerian Professional Security Association (NPSA) in 2002; Secretary, National Working Committee of the same association in 2006; and has been, since 2007, till date, the National General Secretary of the Society of Security Practitioners of Nigeria (SSPN); and Lagos Chapter Secretary, Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN). He has also been a member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) since 2008; and Head Legal, and Social Justice Team, Prison Fellowship of Nigeria (2010).
